While France's forays into secular extremism and the promotion of exclusionary and supremacist philosophies are well known, the French state has taken a significant turn for the worse since the election of President Emmanuel Macron. Macron came to power on the hope of wresting France from descent into fascism, isolationism, and xenophobia; instead, his government was instrumental in deepening the divide, promoting secular extremism and hateful rhetoric at the highest levels of government, dismantling individual and group freedoms, and enacting neoliberal policies that have plunged France into economic and social upheaval. France is credited with the unprecedented surge in Islamophobia across Europe, and has already checked off 7 of the 10 stages of genocide.

Genesis

What started out as false accusations, anti-Muslim tropes, and exclusionary rhetoric has turned into calls for murdering Muslims and committing all out genocide. Members of Modi’s government have been using Nazi methods, including false flag attacks, propaganda, false news stories, and outright lies to demonize Muslims and other minorities. Many have heeded the call by these Hindu extremist members, lynching Muslims in the streets with little or no consequence.

Starting with the hostile revocation of Kashmir's special administration status in 2019 - the only Muslim-majority state in India - the government has taken a series of draconian measures against its minority populations:

• A predatory citizenship law that targets revoking the citizenship of millions of Muslims and members of lower castes. See report.

• Massive crackdown on civil society and NGOs, revoking over 6,000 licenses in less than two years and falsely accusing them of funding terrorism. See report.

• Arresting and jailing hundreds of journalists to prevent the reporting of state- and party-sponsored crimes and violence. See report.

• Targeting activists and citizens reporting crimes using intimidation,including bulldozing houses, mosques, and businesses. See report.

• Creating an environment of impunity, with widespread lynchings of Muslim residents, rapes, and sexual violence against Muslim women ignored by local authorities who refuse to arrest or prosecute the perpetrators. See report.
